I-Cheating

It seems schools are starting to ban i-pods now the same way they did cell phones now in high school classrooms, because of the potential to help students cheat on an exam. Kids have started downloading mathmatical formulas from the web and recording their own voices reciting answers. Because they are somewhat easy to hide by just keeping the tiny ear piece in their ears and keeping the tiny ipods in their pockets, the kids have been getting away with this.
I can understand the banning of ipods in high school classes because they provide a distration. But you might have to get your eyes checked if you can't see the kid taking the test with the ipod in his/her ear.

Public Wi-Fi snooping

You can't use internet in a public place and think you have your full privacy. In a ideal world however you should be able to have a reasonable expectation of privacy on a public wireless network, like at a coffeeshop, as you would in your own home. It is just too easy for others to take advantage of the unsercure-ness of the wireless and watch all your web surfing.

The guy in the article below was demonstating how easy it is to spy on those who think they're enjoying their privacy. He gathered that a couple in the coffeeshop were getting married and another man was thinking about starting his own business because he could view their google searches. I'm not gonna call this act of spying deplorable because it sounds like something i'd try if I knew how to but it should be left to the wifi providers to come up with a way to combat this so no one can be able to do this. We already have enough of our digital identities searchable online.

The selling of services on Craigslist

I love craigslist.com. I got a box fan from a fellow student that listed it this past summer. My friends got a free four-foot pool and set it up in their backyard. I check almost daily to see what I can get for either free or really cheap. Having said that, I have always heard about the site having a problem with prostitution. I just read this article about this seventeen year old who has been using her residence to get men over there to have sex for 250 and hour. Ya, she got arrested.

Can craigslist police this? There should have been some measures to combat this I guess, but it takes away from the whole post whatever u want about whatever you want-ness of the site. Anyways, I don't know where I'm going with this anymore....underage internet prostitution is wrong.

The Blocking of .xxx can be good for the adult entertainment industry

A couple days ago ICANN voted against the creation of the .xxx internet address for the third time. Among the reasons cited, one claimed that the new address did not have the support of the adult entertainment industry. Though lawmakers, the company seeking the domain name, and members of ICANN are coming out and expressing their dissappointment with the boards decision, there are some interesting thoughts floating around with those who support the decision.

Porn sites have carefully withdrawn support for the .xxx address because they have seen the slippery slope associated with it. The .xxx makes it easier for its use to be mandated from the government in the future. The Adult entertainment industry believes that adult content could be pushed here by the government and describes this possibilty as becoming an "online ghetto" of sorts. They do have a point because who knows the future of the internet, it could very well turn out the way they fear if the .xxx is approved.
